Gordon Brothers 2000 Tradition Receives High Ratings, Top Honors in International Competitions
12/7/05
Gordon Brothers Cellars, a small, family owned estate winery situated on a high bluff above the Snake River, has recently received some of the most prestigious honors ever awarded to a Washington winery. The 2000 Tradition, an ultra-premium Bordeaux-style blend, has been recognized as one of the finest produced in the world. Best of Class honors at two international competitions, against many of the most highly acclaimed wines produced in the world paired with high ratings from the press have put Tradition on the map as one of the most sought-after wines in the United States.

LA County Fair, 2005 Wines of the World Competition – Best of Class GOLD for Bordeaux Blends (including Meritage) $30.01 and up. This category included many of the most prestigious producers from Napa, Sonoma and other parts of California.

Gold Challenge Wine Competition 2005 – Best of Class for Red Blends $18.00 and up. The Gold Challenge is an invitation-only competition that judges only Best of Class or Double Gold medal wines selected from other major U.S. wine competitions. This year, the winners were selected from a field of more than 175 entries.

In addition to these spectacular awards, 2000 Tradition received a 90-point rating from Wine Spectator. Editor-at-Large Harvey Steiman states that this vintage is “ripe and generous, brimming with blackberry, currant and plum flavor, nicely shaded with white pepper and toast, framed with mildly gritty tannins.”

Owner Jeff Gordon (who also serves as Chairman of the Washington Wine Commission) states, “Our goal as a farm and winery is to produce the highest-quality wines from the ground up. We have total control from the vineyard to the bottle, and we are proud of the quality, value and consistency of our product.” Tradition is just one of the estate-grown wines from Gordon Brothers that has received high acclaim during 2005. Seeing the beauty and ideal climate of Eastern Washington, John’s culinary training fueled a desire to learn more about how great wines are made, quite literally from the ground up. These courses focused specifically on Eastern Washington and allowed him to sharpen his skills related to the growth and cultivation of wine grapes because; great wines are made in the vineyard. At the same time he became privy to the best kept secrets in the business, as well as some of the latest technology related to the science of making wine.

Future Releases given high ratings

We are excited to announce to all of you that three of our future releases were given high ratings by "Wine Spectator" magazine.

The 2002 Merlot was rated 90 points and was named a "Smart Buy"! The label is pictured on page 227 under the "Smart Buy" category. "Wine Spectator" rates wines on a 100 point scale. Wines in the 90-94 point range are categorized as "Outstanding: a wine of superior character and style." The "Smart Buy" is defined as "wines that deliver fine character at affordable prices and that are broadly available".

Equally exciting is the fact that the Gordon Brothers 2001 Tradition wine also received a 90 point rating. The 2002 Syrah received an 88 point rating, or a "very good: a wine with special qualities".
