Winemaking and tasting notes: With a low-intervention winemaking philosophy, winemaker lets the vineyard's virtues shine. Aged for 40 months in a combination of French and American oak, the wine was never filtered or racked. Judicious and patient oak aging frames this luxurious wine with gentle, yet long tannins.
The seductive 2017 Gordon Estate Tempranillo evokes the color purple with a generous nose of dried violets, blueberries and plum. So generous are the notes of blueberries and plum that they spill to the plush palate conjuring an overflowing bowl of fruit. Red cherry and raspberry flavors are interwoven seamlessly with the aforementioned blueberries, and plums and are backed by a saline streak and umami flavors redolent of fine toasted "Nori" that focuses this layered wine. The cooling winds off the Snake River on this dramatic estate block allows the fruit to ripen gently, inducing phenolic development while retaining its food-friendly acidity for the traditionally early ripening Tempranillo. Judicious and thoughtful oak use frames this luxurious wine with gentle, yet long tannins.
